Obituary
Helen M. Hervol, 93, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Friday, April 25, 2014, in Country Meadows, South Fayette Township, following a brief illness.She was born August 23, 1920, in Pittsburgh's South Side, a daughter of the late Peter and Mary Smith Bernacki.Mrs. Hervol was a hard-working and devoted mother who thoroughly enjoyed polka music. She regularly attended Monday Night Polka Club at SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane, where she was a social member.She was a co-owner of Hervol's Service Station and was a cafeteria worker for Canon-McMillan School District. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Parish in Canonsburg, where she was a 30-year member of the choir, Christian Mothers and Guild and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Canonsburg 1211. She had been a member of the former St. Genevieve's Church.Mrs. Hervol was a longtime member of North Strabane Township Democratic Women, where she held various offices. She was also a member of Strabane KSKJ St. Jerome Lodge 153, Slovenian Union of America in Strabane and White Eagles Lodge in Canonsburg.On August 18, 1940, she married her beloved husband, Henry J. Hervol, who passed away December 29, 2003.Surviving are her eight loving children, Henry (Kristi) Hervol Jr. of Round Rock, Texas, Ted (fiancée Nancy Scott) Hervol of Canonsburg, Carol (Rod) Lee of Livermore, Calif., Michelle (John) Arrigoni of Amherst, Ohio, Dennis (Terry) Hervol of Macon, Ga., Joanne (Carey) Church of Strabane, Rick (Chris) Hervol of Strabane and Diane Hervol of Kyle, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Deceased are two sisters, Connie Cascio and Francis Topleski; a brother, Frank Bernacki; and two grandchildren.Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Canonsburg. The Christian Mothers and Women Guild of St. Patrick Church will recite the rosary at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Salardra Funeral Service, Canonsburg.
