Canonsburg Police Chief Haney - 1941-1950

The

Photograph is of James Haney, who was Chief of Police from 1941-1950.  Canonsburg's first police motorcycle was an Ace, bought from local dealer Victor Simonin in 1923. He went to Philadelphia to pick it up (probably by train), and rode it back. It was replaced in 1925 by a Henderson, and an Indian was purchased the following year to provide two patrol vehicles. The first squad car was bought from Barney Patsch in 1933. The specs required leather seats; apparently they had a problem with drunks bleeding or vomiting in the taxis that they had been hiring.
The picture was taken at the end of East College  near the intersection of Pike looking toward Weavertown bridge and hill.
