Re: Memory challange...

Jim, sounds like interesting box office art, I hope Ken is successful in chasing down.

I knew a guy, last name was Lutes, that was an usher during the early fifties, I'll try to run him down and probe.

I'll also post to the Canonsburg Friends Blog.

Garbo.

Can anybody help Lloyd Hampson's friend on the identity of Mr. Carter the sign painter?

hi Lloyd,

For some reason, memories of the Continental and Alhambra movie theaters came back to me this morning.  I remember so well going to the Continental on Saturday afternoons to see the "Class B" double feature films and the weekly serial adventure.  At the Alhambra, of course, one was treated to a first-run movie, cartoon, Fox Movietone News (I can still hear the opening theme music) and coming attractions.  Every once-in-a-while a travelogue - "and as the sun sets over..."

OK, beyond all the nostalgia, I have a question.  Do you remember the hand-painted signs that were behind glass frames at the entrance to the Alhambra (on either side of the ticket booth)?  They would feature color caricatures of the actors in the current film, etc.  They were painted by a Mr. Carter.  Do you by any chance remember his first name?  I was trying to track down any record of his work on the web, but no luck without a first name.

Oh...the good old days...   Ken
